Re: Thinking about raising quail
Thanks, windwalkingwolf ! I really like it too. Just a few finishing touches left to do. Believe it or not, a lot of it is built from repurposed materials. It's also removable, so if it gets super cold this winter we can move it into the garage where there is power for heat.We are of course kicking ...

OMG, @Farrier1987 - that one was particularly painful.

Re: Thinking about raising quail
Thanks, Killerbunny and Happy KB, they are not that big - when I cup my hands around one, I can easily touch my fingers together. I will try to take a picture this evening in comparison with something else beside one to give you a better idea. They are very sweet. I'm hoping the deep litter method w...

Re: Thinking about raising quail
I tried to upload some pics earlier, but I ran into size errors. Now that I've managed to compress a few the roundabout way, it works ...

Safe trip, WLLady and Martin!
I hope your aunt will get stronger so that something can be done to help her beat her cancer.
Good to hear that your Dad is still carrying on, hopefully with a good quality of life.

Re: Thinking about raising quail
I was hoping to attach some pics of our quail pen and house, but I get a message that the board attachment quota has been reached. Hmmm. Sorry - will try to resize them to see if that makes a difference. The run has a main wall that opens up for full access, and hubby will be putting in a smaller do...

Re: Chicken laying eggs from perch
:D , baronrenfrew . No, actually she's a 7 year old hen who laid 6-7 eggs a week up until last year, when she slowed down to 4-5 and then quit for the winter (first time), and this year has been laying much less and sporadically. In fact, she's pretty much stopped over the past month. I wish I could...

Re: Chicken laying eggs from perch
I hear you about picking eggs out of poop. Not fun. I have a hen that used to occasionally lay on the poop board in the early morning hours. She's a BSL and I think her cycle was less than 24 hours, which is why she'd sometimes not be awake enough. She's finally only laying intermittently, and I'm g...
