Time to chime in...not that my opinion truly counts for much, but meh, why not. On the topic of bear proofing, not sure that there is a 100% gauranteed method but ross ' idea on the electric fence works...the trick is to have at least one wire at nose height and that's a guess on how big the bear is...

my experience with PBRs has been that when both genders are together at about 3-4 weeks the males will be a lighter appearing shade of gray...very noticeable...this is all before the combs and wattles start to really show of course...my 2 cents :run:

all the tomatoes are up and bountiful...i am losing my mind MJ says..sooo many varieties....fun tho...peppers are doing well and this year i started a bunch of flowers types...all took and I guess my grow light build over the past years works...yay me!...chkd the garden, chives and garlic are going ...

I never thought there was anything good that could come of a weasel attack but it made me put tops on all the pens. No wild birds can get in to where the chickens are to take advantage of free food as they did in the past. . The girls are not happy about no free ranging anymore but them's the breaks...

sounds good...collecting eggs as we speak (type?) ...the peppers were planted a while ago and are doing well..tomatoes just sprouted...

OH Killerbunny you tease you as a distraction, i have 13 Welsummer eggs in the incy..test run on a couple of the pullet eggs with them...the pullets have been spraying eggs out, strong shells and good membranes...3/4 size mostly as their systems mature...the 'moms' are a little slower getting going ...
