So they have another purpose - lightning rods. It would be scary to be near it when it was hit. I wonder how often they get hit by lightning.

There are hundreds of voles here this year too. They even peeled my tree peonies. Lots of mice as well. As a result, I have lots of predators here too - coyotes, hawks, owls, ravens, gulls, and a weasel. I saw a grackle eating a sparrow, and another one eating a vole. I didn't know they were predato...

My chickens are in a building that has a sand floor. I put shavings in the nests and on the floor for the winter.
