Re: File this under gross.

One of my neighbours had her property dragged last summer and the ticks/nymphs they caught tested for Lime. Of the 120 or so they caught, 60% were positive. Now the medical community in Ottawa has recognized that the disease is here. Our local medical centre will test and treat for it. I have even s...

Paint for coop interior

I'm seriously considering stripping everything out, scrubbing and then painting everything inside my coop. I cannot stand the dust any longer!!! While I know that painting isn't going to get rid of the problem I'm hoping it would make cleaning it a little easier. Currently the interior of coop is t...

Small Flock # for meat birds???

Whenever I have bought meat chicks the form 300 comes with them. You have to keep it and take to the processing plant if you are not doing the birds yourself. You can also register with Chicken Farmer of Ontario as a Family Food Grower (https://www.familyfoodgrower.ca/) - any home raised birds can b...

Sometimes you find willpower in odd places

I quit a number of years ago and I still like that fact that I can just go out without having to calculate if I have enough cigarettes, a lighter or matches for however long I was planning on being out. My reward was taking dressage lesson from a level 3 coach, my husband started taking his shirts t...

DIY coop heater

I have used this setup for 2 years. I use 25 W bulbs and switch them out for 40W when it is really cold (lower than -15 in the barn). I put small black rubber dishes on top of the concrete block/tiles as I found the fountains I use in the summer still freeze. I am very careful to ensure no shavings ...

I've always wanted to travel but now I'm not so sure.

Like Ross says it is all possible. One of my brothers has been travelling since last September. He left Ontario for BC to settle his son there. Flew back to get his partner and a they took off in his Ford 150 with a pop up camper (second hand 3,500 I think). they drove down the west coast, across th...

Good Morning!

12635 And to crown it al I went down to close up the turkeys and it looks like Stephen has got hurt. Maybe slipped in the mud or something. His neck seems crooked and he looks scared. I've put him in a coop on his own so we'll see what the morning brings. He was fine 1/2 hr earlier. Symptoms sound ...

who wants sweet potato shoots for the spring?

I would be interested in a few. Hopefully Baron R can squeeze them into his vehicle. I am in Carp so an easy meet on his proposed route.

ameraucana crosses... worth the effort?

If any thing, I would cross with a white egg layer. The Hamburgs I have had lay a medium sized white egg and generally once a day. I haven't owned any other white egg layers but I imagine some else can comment.
