Sneezing, gurgling and wheezing!
I noticed cold like symptoms in one of my hens during the recent cold spell. Tonight, when I went to tuck them in, a second one was showing the same symptoms. I'm worried that it will spread through so I should isolate the two? This is my third winter with chickens and I've never experienced this. C...

WHAT brought you to the Hobby, and what made you stay?
We were expropriated from our 2 acre semi-rural property a few years back. They gave us market value for our home. Boy, did we land on our feet: 25 acres of heaven with a pond, a brook, forest, can't see the road from the house. Need I go on? For Christmas that year, my husband gave me a chicken coo...

Day old Barred birds
hhmm, when we ordered our barred chicks from the hatchery, one of them turned out to be a male. We ordered females. So if the peeps at the hatchery couldn't differentiate a male barred from a female barred, I'm inclined to believe that it's a mighty difficult thing to do.

What on earth did this chicken lay?
I've attached two pictures of smthg a chicken layed. Could it be the product of an egg bound hen?

Sour Crop
Put the hen back in the coop this morning. Crop is normal again. She was feisty as I handled her which I take as a very good sign. I learned a few things thanks to OPT!

I gave the hen some yogurt with an eye/ear dropper yesterday. Today, she's walking around pooping well and looking for food! The crop is looking good too. She helped herself to yogurt. Will keep her for another 24 hours and then she's good to go back to her peers. Bum looks and smell good. Thank you...

Sour Crop
Hhmm... All sounds good. I think the cause are sunflower seeds. Chatting with the owner of my local feed store one day and they asked if I gave my hens sunflower seeds as treats. So, I've been giving them the occasional sunflower seed. Not a good idea according to you Happy. Although quite watery, h...

Sour Crop
Hello! I'm new! I have a small coop with 9 hens and I am three years into this. Like most, I truly enjoy my birds. BUT, when sickness strikes, I'm desperate to help them. My black sexlink appears to have a sour crop. I have isolated her (since Sunday pm), put apple cider vinegar in her drinking wate...
