It's wonderful that you are able to visit like that, a caring daughter. You are correct on the other points as well. I don't think it will get better as the Govt moves seniors further away from family (in the North I think they can move them far away).

Oh gosh. When we were kids (many years ago) we had a programme at school where you visited seniors in their homes. Maybe they have a similar thing here? I find this as a terrifying prospect as we age to maybe end up in a home. I hope they arehappy.

I wouldn't because they may not be able to take small enough pices and end with impacted crops. Bits od dandelion flower are fun for them.
