Re: Help, what is wrong with my chicken???

All healed up!!! Kept her separate for a few weeks to heal and once she didn’t need the wrap any more integrated her back into the flock slowly. :)

Re: Big Eggs!!!

She has started laying normal ones now, just the occasional "football" as we call them.

Big Eggs!!!

I want to see everyone else's big eggs! We got some chicks in April which aren't laying yet and some RTLs in July. One of them lays HUGE eggs every day. It has become a game to weigh it at the end of the day. Not sure who it is despite my constant spying haha. Today was her biggest, 88 grams!!! They...

Re: litter help for a newbie!

Thanks all! I almost forgot I posed this question. We decided on pine shavings. Cheap, easy for me to shovel into the tractor bin and nicely decompose. Pretty happy so far.

Re: Farm names?

Yeah, 80 here too. Plus main road into the Rez so really busy and Rez gas station a few hundred meters away. Closest one to town so everyone goes there to buy smokes and gas. Already enough car accidents with high speed and hidden driveways. Don't want to be responsible for more.

Re: Farm names?

Yeah, I feel like the eggs would all disappear lol. Plus we are on a really busy country road on a hill, worried about the safety of people getting out.

Re: Eat a shell-less egg?

Thats what I thought, thanks everyone! I pitched it in the field. No other soft ones since. I am new to chickens (my hubs grew up on a chicken farm, less enthused than I am lol) so I check them often. Definitely don't want them to think they are yummy!

Re: Farm names?

Thanks everyone! We aren't starting a business by any means, just think it would be fun to have a name :) We have 15 laying now and 12 chicks that will lay sometime in august (6 roos, 6 hens). My son sells the eggs to cover costs of feed and to teach him a bit about business (he is 7). Mainly to fri...

Farm names?

Ok, we have tried to think up names for our farm for a year. By farm I mean we have 10 acres, most of which is agriculture but some zoned environmentally protected. It pretty rolly, has a lovely pond and the only thing we have now are chickens and veggies for us. We want something with "little" in i...

Eat a shell-less egg?

I got some RTLs two weeks ago, most are laying but some not. Nice strong shells, nothing weird. Well tonight one that already laid this morning dropped a shell-less egg. I think its likely because she just isn't into the groove yet. Anyway. I rinsed it off and put it in the fridge. My kid wants to e...
