Loss of a well known Breeder
I a sad to inform our members that Bill Braden passed away on April 10. He was a breeder of several breeds of turkeys and Chickens. As well he was an accomplished breeder of swine and Cattle. A true farmer right to the end.

I bought a small incubator from Amazon. After playing around with temperature controls and manually rotating the eggs I got a 75% hatch rate. I had 3 pens with different breeds in the same coop. I hatched some pullets in early may and they started laying in December. Had eggs all winter.

How do you know when your eggs have started to hatch? Does the hen stay tight on the eggs while they hatch or will she get off the nest a bit or behave differently to tip you off that it's happening?

My chickens love wheat Oats are a close second They eat barley if there is nothing else. I have had success feeding Roosters wheat and cracked corn in different feeders free choice in a pasture pen. When it comes to whole corn they would sooner eat barley.
