Re: Aerogarden
It's odd that you cannot see the air roots, they are usually quite bulky right underneath the pot, but yours are skinny in that spot. I use an indoor watering can with a skinny spout to direct the water along the side of the jar so as not to get the air roots wet. I don't have to lift the large plan...

Re: Aerogarden
Air roots are very important. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned them. Don't get them wet either! I killed a plant by pouring water over the air roots. Now I just lift the whole plant up high when I top up. I don't have a clue about EC meters. I have learned that the cheap pH meters don't work. The...

Re: Sticker Shock!
Lolotsung, if your Dad likes the Campari or Certo tomatoes (from Metro), they apparently grow true, but are assumed to be hybrids. I grew Certo one year and they were great compact plants with perfect clusters. However, much as I enjoy these varieties in the winter, there are better varieties out th...

Re: Sticker Shock!
Most plants come true from saved seed - except when they are hybrids! Your dad may have liked a grape tomato from the grocery store, and saved some seeds. However, he might have been very disappointed to find that he had grown a great big beefsteak with tough skin (which took after one of the parent...

Re: Sticker Shock!
Speaking of pricey seedlings. Our Horticultural Society had their plant sale yesterday and I took some of my "extra" tomato seedlings along. Because they were "heirloom", they charged $6 a pot!!!! I thought that was a bit steep, but they all sold. (Some hybrids cost $1 a seed these days, so it's wor...

Thanks so much for responding Tom. Did you re-integrate her with the others or keep her separate?

Nothing works on vent gleet!
I guess nobody wanted to admit that a long-standing case of vent gleet must be incurable.
