Re: Advice please re broody

Wyandottes are very good mothers will bring the chicks out right away, no need to brood indoors. Hatch time still 21 days :) I would give her at least 6 eggs, in case some get "lost" you don't want to end up with a single chick. They will be plenty hardy going in to winter. The only thing you have t...

Re: Garden 2018 wishlist and offerings

That's the idea, they bend over and plant themselves :)
Had to get rid of them, if I turned my back, they walked off all over the countryside, kept finding them in the shrubbery for years :)

Re: No-Cook Tomato Sauce

Sounds delicious! None of mine are ripe yet, sadly, but soon! Then, this will be first on the menu. I think I might try it with some fresh dill, too! That is the nice part, you can throw any spice in it you like, I spent $0.98 on a Basil plant this spring, so now feel very frugal every time I use i...

Re: No-Cook Tomato Sauce

Yes that's the one in the bottom right corner. The colour comes in shaded green to red, looks a bit fake. I get that the lack of seeds and juice makes it easier to core, but lack of taste is a bit odd, I guess you are supposed to add lots of spices and other things. It's a bit of fun because of the...

Re: Building a "digester"

Leaves are great if they are chopped up and I have seen a good way to do that with a whippersnapper in a garbage can, but didn't quite got the energy to actually do that. Same with long stems, they should be cut up somewhat, but I must admit I have stopped putting cucumber wines in the compost, too ...

Re: Building a "digester"

Thanks very much for the tip about adding soil. I was always reluctant to do that and felt that it was a cop out for people who didn't know what they were doing. After all, we can make purrfectly good compost without the use of soil, or even watering, but I do see your point about inoculating the m...
