Re: Our last GREAT potato for this season, a WINNER!

Out of my pitiful lot one potato (interestingly one that was damaged ) didn't freeze completely and this spring sported one eye!!!! so planted it separately so I could baby it, we are calling it the "twenty dollar potato", and will see what happens.
That will teach me buying anything on a whim ;)

Re: Good Morning!

Thank you for the kind offer baronrenfrew, but since I wouldn't know what to do with it if I caught it, probably not a good idea. I may as well admit it, I am not going to be getting a gun at this stage of my life, mainly because I couldn't hit a broad side of the barn when I was younger and my eye ...

Re: Summer Lilac

We seem to have had a killer winter, looks like I lost one of my Smoke trees, didn't think you could kill that and one cedar about 6 years old is yellow and crisp, didn't think there was anything unusual about this past winter, but definitely unusual number of shrubs in the neighborhood didn't make ...

Good morning! Glad you are back from your travels safe and sound WLLady and back to your garden/animal duties :) Baron was right, the fox was back!!! Finished edging around the whole run this morning, you would think the kind of noise the trimmer makes would keep any animal away, went in to take my ...

Re: Smallest eggs ever,

Today I spotted a brown patch on top of head, hope they slow down once the chicks hatch, so I can take a good look and identify. The nest is in a 4 foot cedar, other years they have nested in an Alberta spruce, but I never found the nest, now I know why, had no idea it would be that tiny.

Re: Good Morning!

Actually the price is pretty standard, it's $800 with general anesthetic and $600 (which I paid) with just temporary anestethic. Seeing that it was Sunday I didn't even haggle:) He had the quills on the inside of his mouth and lips, no way to get them while he was conscious :) What I found interesti...

Re: Good Morning!

I took my mutt to the vet for porcupine quills and was glad my pet insurance covered most of the $800. Yikes. A friend told me that the secret to pulling the quills out is to cut them first to "let the air out" - does that make any sense? Apparently new research according to the vet has shown that ...

Re: Good Morning!

Everybody accounted for, one has a rather diminished tail, one big plus with Amearuacanas, they will fly readily. When the Wyandottes are out I sit in the run with them, they are too easy a pray, a little too docile and I am not willing to loose any. I must admit when I saw the pile I was pretty sur...

Re: Good Morning!

Two things came to mind...one...Labs are great but they will NEVER learn to not grab a porcupine...its basically Labrador Retriever genetics 101...and two...would you have actually stuck the pitchfork into a fox?..or was it to make you feel like your threat at the rascal was genuine so he/she bette...
