Re: winter cleaning

I have seen a video with someone who put a tarp under the roosts for easy scooping. I was thinking of doing that, but I would have to block off the space under the bottom roost. I would not want to kneel down and reach under the tarp for an egg if a hen laid one by the far wall. I have a poop board...

Re: So far this year I have not ...

So far this year I have not forgotten about any frozen, cracked chicken eggs in my coat pocket. I have however, forgotten about two frozen, cracked quail eggs. Maybe I forgot because they're so small and don't create a noticeable lump in my pocket. I did remember them the next morning after I stuck ...

Re: Vent gleet?

Kefir should work just fine, if they like it, and I've heard that many do. :-) I don't work in any aspect of the field of health or medicine, veterinary or otherwise, so I'm no expert and I really don't know about withdrawal period for anti-fungals in general, but since these are prescribed for huma...

Re: Vent gleet?

Sounds like you have a solid plan. Good luck! You might want to follow up with some probiotics as well, after you have completed treatment, in order to get her gut flora back to a healthier state. When my hen had vent gleet, I sprinkled some probiotic powder from capsules that I took myself (the ref...

Re: Vent gleet?

Don't know if this information will help, but I used oral dosing of an antifungal – Flucomazole, AKA Diflucan UN (Pfizer) or CanesOral (Bayer) for one of my hens that had vent gleet. Walmart carries both, at least at the store I shopped at, and has the lowest price. And they are both OTC. For poultr...

Re: Just wondering...

Hope that epsoms salts bath and a warm break gets your hen sorted out, TomK . One other thought: if it's light yellow beige and her skin is raw, it sounds like it could be vent gleet. Did it smell a bit yeasty? Since you have her all cleaned up anyway, I would try applying some Canesten cream to her...
