Early Birds
This is a first for me. This is lockdown day for the guinea eggs in the incubator. When I first went to check on the humidity, as I usually do first thing in the morning, I found that an egg was pipped. As quickly as I could, I removed the turner and put all the eggs on the incubator floor. That's w...

Re: ...on our little farm
We have parsley that came up again, too. I already know that it's a biennial, so we'll see how long they they can hold off blooming.
I cleaned out the incubator yesterday, and today I put in 16 guinea fowl eggs. We'll see what happens with those.

Re: ...on our little farm
I would never have known that rabbits eat rhubarb either. As it turns out, the kale that came up from last year is going straight into bloom. Good thing I picked a bunch of new little leaves because we won't be keeping those kale plants. I just finished incubating some chicken eggs and got an 80% ha...

...on our little farm
Lately, on our little farm, this is what's been happening: There are eggs in the incubator (1st time in 2 yrs), and they will go into lockdown soon. The kale in the vegetable garden survived the winter, and I picked a lot today to thin out each plant, leaving one shoot on each plant. I also picked r...

Re: Good Morning - 2023
Sorry; I haven't been on in a while. It's Winter, and I've just been looking after my birds, collecting eggs, etc. And I have the Winter to get some sewing done.

Re: Guinea fowl saga continues
With all the wet grass and cool temperatures we made a decision for these sub-Saharan African birds. They were out and about this morning, so we snatched them and put them in the brooder box with a heat lamp and food and water.

Re: Guinea fowl saga continues
DH and I went out at dusk with flashlights in search of the hen and keets with the intention of catching the keets and putting them in the brooder box. They were not to be found. We will have to come up with another plan; the cold weather will be soon upon us.
