Re: Hen broke a toe

Well here we go again. I noticed last week that Big Momma was sitting a lot and didn’t seem to be feeling herself. I’ve been watching what treats they’ve been getting and monitoring her crop. Last night it felt sort of doughy and full. This morning first thing it was still full and very little poop ...

Re: Thanksgiving ....

Well considering it rained in January on my first wedding day about 25 years ago not falling for that lol! Yes the original plan had been for the chickens to attend but we had a dog chasing incident the day before (new in-laws dog) so that had pretty much changed that plan regardless of weather. Eve...

Teeny’s First

In all of the excitement this weekend I almost forgot. Teeny Weeny (the girl in my profile pic) laid her first egg. She practiced her egg song for 3 days before laying and drove me crazy! 3BA571F0-DBDF-4AD0-88A7-924D4C4F4904.jpeg Pictured here with a big girl large and double yolker and an adult hen...

Re: Can someone take close-up pics of feathered legs for me?

I do have vetrx and coconut oil. The second (older one) is molting right now so new pin feathers are coming through those iffy scales. I don't think she's got mites but it's possible. I'll slather her legs up. It's so not a pretty thing to do to a fluffy legged bird lol.

Re: Can someone take close-up pics of feathered legs for me?

This is two different birds. The black one is 6 months old and the lighter one is just over a year old. I may be wrong but in my limited experience their scales look SLIGHTLY lifted where the feather shafts come out. The scales on the inside of the leg and foot should be smooth. If I am wrong someon...

Re: Hes a boy, isnt he?

I think I agree with Jaye and Kenya on this one. At that age I would expect a redder face/comb/wattle than that. This chicken looks like it's got that orangey-red blush that starts several weeks before laying begins. If you separate the feathers on the back right before tail starts I would expect yo...
