What breeds?
I'm glad for all your feedback! But disappointed to find I have roos instead of hens, and little bantams instead of full size birds! Guess I'll keep them around for a few months but will have to get rid of all the unproductive ones before winter.

How well do Light Sussex lay eggs?
24200 If they were broody it takes a while for them to ramp up production after they have stopped being broody. I'm hardly getting any eggs either!!! Glad I'm not alone in this! lol They're such pretty birds but I do expect them to pay for their keep! Hopefully they'll start laying again before too...

How well do Light Sussex lay eggs?
These were hatched in early april last year so molting does sound likely. Will they lose their feathers? How long do they not lay?

Thanks WLLady. Sounds like you know your birds! I just like to have my own eggs and it's just fun to have a variety of layers rather than all commercial laying hens (although those are more reliable layers). Yes I'm sure it's the 2 guys with big combs that are crowing. Do you have any idea what bree...

How well do Light Sussex lay eggs?
I wondered about molting too. Although I haven't noticed missing feathers. There's one or 2 that were acting broody a few weeks. They all look the same so I don't know if it's always the same hen on nest or not. No changes in environment or feed.

How well do Light Sussex lay eggs?
My 5 light sussex hens are now 15 months old. They were laying well over the winter months....3-4 eggs every day from the 5 birds. In the past couple months I'm getting only 1-2 eggs a day from them, some days 0. Are they just going thru a slow period and will pick up again? Or are they now well pas...

Wow! Well that would be disappointing to find they are boys! You may be right. They do have longer arching tail feathers and the red one has especially chunky legs. The 3rd one that came with them (not pictured) has shorter tail feathers. When should I expect to have them start crowing? And what abo...

Interesting that you think they are boys! Guess time will tell. The box was labelled as 3 hens. I also bought a box of 4 smaller birds that day and 2 are definitely boys and I've heard one of them crow a few times now. They are upstairs in the barn. Since you've said you think these are boys, I've p...

Thanks baronrenfrew. Yes I had light sussex hens already. As for the red being a roo.....they're not crowing at all yet.
