Re: Good Morning

Hello everyone! I miss this forum! I still have a mini flock of three chickens and three ducks but have gotten into a routine where I don’t need as much advice as I used to. I wanted to report that after eight years of using ground walnut shell in my chicken coop - and I mean the same two bags!!- I ...

Chicken tractor

Does anyone have a good easy plan for a chicken tractor? It will be used during the day only, as I plan to take the birds back to the main coop to be safe at night. So it can be very basic, just a box on wheels with some shade. Looking for ideas.

Re: Good Morning!

Sorry for delay on update. I lost a very dear friend. What a run I’ve had, first my father, then my husband, then my brother and then two friends. No tears left for chickens. But the good news is, Mercedes is fine! No mites. She responded to the TLC as recommended. All is well in the coop. Thanks ag...

Re: Good Morning!

Yes Killerbunny hatched Jul 2017, such lovely girls from your house. Thanks WLLady you give me hope. I will bring her inside to be warm and feed her warm quinoa or oatmeal and electrolytes and hope for the best. How do I check for mites other than visually? I’ve gone backwards it seems. I used to be...

Re: Good Morning!

Hi all. I know, it’s been ages since I posted. Hope all are well and 2021 is off to a good start for you. I have a problem I know I have seen someone else describe. Please direct me to the right place. One of my beloved Wyandottes is now losing her balance, eating very slowly, losing weight. She sta...

Re: Walnut shell bedding revisited:compost question

Hi OC you are right of course! I really only care about it as bedding. I tried to answer someone’s question about whether it was safe to put into compost. In the past I have put used pine bedding into compost to use on plants, so the question was, how about this stuff? So the answer is, for me, yes,...

Walnut shell bedding revisited:compost question

You guys must be tired of hearing me rave about walnut shell bedding. I am on year six and happier than ever. The two Main advantages are: 1. my coop never smells and 2. (related) it stays dry as a bone. For years! After four years, I decided I should change out the bedding “just because”, and to ch...

Re: Pine bedding

I agree about Bill a Carrie in Sydenham. They are the best!
I use their pine shavings only for the nest nest boxes, though. I am on year 6 of using ground walnut shell for the coop.
