Hatched by the Moon

I just saw an ad on Kijiji where they said the chicks for sale "were hatched by the moon which makes them hardier". They didn't say which moon they used.

Re: Wondering about a cross

He hit my legs with his feet a couple of times when he was with the hens. I had rubber boots on and he doesn't have big spurs so no damage, just annoyance on my part. He was kind of rough with the hens, not just when he was breeding them. He'd grab them and pull feathers out for no obvious (to me) r...

I'm curious. Is the black coming from the blues or the Columbian?

Re: Wondering about a cross

Jaye, you are right. I have purposely not kept nasty roosters, so far. They just aren't much fun. I don't make mine into pets, but it annoys me when they run at me every time I go by their pens, or attack my legs when I go in to feed them, even when they are not with hens. One thing I have noticed t...

Re: Wondering about a cross

Hmm. Maybe I should not keep him, and just get some from another breed and color. I tried to get some Speckled Sussex hatching eggs once - it was a disaster.

I think I saw mealworms at the Peavey Mart in Regina. Maybe you can get some there.

Re: Wondering about a cross

I have another one that's similar coloring but smaller. There's a bit of light gold barring in some places. There are some red commercial hens for sale in the area right now. I would like something that is not just pretty but is dual purpose. I have never bought live birds because I don't really hav...

Re: Wondering about a cross

I had him with a couple of older basque hens in the early spring - one normal color and the other my only speckled one. It was too early I think (natural light) only a couple were fertile, plus he was kind of mean to them, and me, so I took him out. I have blue Ameraucana hens. Would all the chicks ...
