Re: New chicks

The Serama rooster was adopted yesterday. I gave him to a family from Manitoba. He sure has a lot of miles on him - Aberdeen to Saskatoon, Saskatoon to south of Regina, back to Regina, then off to Manitoba. They called him "Sir Rama". :) Hope he likes kids!

Re: Lacing on a splash

Thanks for the pictures. I realized the other day that it really doesn't matter what my chickens look like, as long as I like them. I will never be showing them. I do like to learn a lot though, and ask a lot of questions. :) Thanks for the information. A lot of people call the ones with the splotch...

Here's a couple more pictures of this bird, taken with no flash.

Re: Unnerving.

Would motion sensor lights scare them off? The RCMP also told us to report all suspicious activities - strange people hanging around, trespassers, break ins where they don't take anything, etc. He said that the number of officers assigned to rural areas is determined by the volume of trouble reports...

Re: sanitizing egg method to improve incubator hatch rate

I bought some Brinsea egg disinfectant from Botkin, but I haven't used it yet.

Re: Unnerving.

It's kind of scary that they feel comfortable robbing people who are home. In 2014 there were a bunch of vehicle thefts and robberies from farms and acreages all around Regina, as far as 90 minutes out. They started in the fall when farmers were harvesting, and carried on through the winter. It turn...

New pullets

These are the new Ameraucana pullets I bought in August. They were hatched June 26.

This is the EO chick I hatched and raised by herself. The Ameraucanas picked on her a bit but she seems to be doing all right in the group now.

Re: Lacing on a splash

In the first picture the darkest one is a blue. I was calling the two lighter ones splashes - they are both not white, just a pale blue with dark splotches. In the second picture, the dark one is a blue - there are no blacks in this pen. I will try to get some new pictures of the one I was asking ab...

Red leakage

I was disappointed to see the largest of my new Ameraucana cockerels has red leakage. The brown spots showed up a couple weeks ago, but I didn't see the yellowish color in the same area until I took the pictures today. Does red leakage show up on females too?
