Re: Fly strike

I put some plants in the building where the chickens are. Some had fungus gnats in the potting soil, so I put some of those yellow sticky papers in the pots. The fungus gnats stuck on them and so did several larger flies. I saw somewhere that you can make your own fly catchers by covering a yellow c...

Seramas

I sold 4 of my Seramas a few weeks ago - 2 hens and 2 roosters. I put them on Kijiji. There were 195 views and 5 replies in 2 days from people who wanted them. I let them go for $15 each, which is a lot cheaper than most people here sell them for. I kept 5 - 2 roosters and 3 hens. Here's a picture o...

Re: Celebrating Bird Day !

After supper, I saw this Mallard hen walk out of my pasture, across the driveway, and over to the dugout with her 8 ducklings. She must have been well hidden. The coyotes hunt in the pasture a lot, and there are several horned owls here often.

Re: Serama rooster

That rooster was about 9 months old. I haven't lost any more Seramas. They are 1 year old now. I did lose one of my old Ameraucana hens the other day. I think heart failure. She was 7 years old and from my first hatch.

Re: Rain

There's been about 2 1/2 inches of rain here since May, and not much in May. The water in my dugouts is quite low.

Re: One eyed chicken?

I have an Ameraucana hen that got injured in one eye over a year ago. It wasn't bleeding, but the eyeball was flat and I found her in the nest box facing the back and looking sickly. I couldn't see an injury, but her eye was watering a bit and she kept it closed. It was 2 days before she was out mov...

Re: Online Peony Show

The online peony show has been extended to July 18. Out this way a lot of peonies are blooming a week or two later than usual. The Canadian Peony Society will be having a peony root sale in fall. You have to be a member to buy from the sale. You can go to https://peony.ca/ to find out more about the...
