Easter egger/Olive egger/Partridge Chanteclar roosters FREE! SOLD

Hey all, It seems my order with Performance Poultry in May has left me with some roosters which need to find new homes. Though I ordered female easter eggers and olive eggers, I seem to have ended up with some roosters in the batch. I think there are also a couple of partridge chanteclar roosters in...

Re: Baby chicks (21 days old) and mama hen

Congratulations! Not sure about your setup, but I just take my Mum and chicks outside and they figure out the rest. If she wants them out with everyone..she'll take care of them..that's how I do it. I have the brooder (3'x7') in the basement right near the walk out door. I can just open the front o...

Baby chicks (21 days old) and mama hen

Kbr42 WLLady Happy Here are the chicks with the "good" mama hen, 21 days in. They are very happy and healthy, despite the loss of that initial chick the rest have done really well and seem eager to start adventuring with their adoptive mama hen. The other hens have come around to have a look (not t...

Re: What do I do?

kenya , thanks for your comment. Seems like that is the way to go. Well we are at the six day mark and aside from the loss of the one chick everything is going really well. The one hen seems to have no trouble taking care of 14 babies by herself. I was a bit worried because they can't all fit under...

Re: What do I do?

WLLady Kbr42 Happy I evicted the orney mama hen this morning, much to her disgust. There have been no incidents since then and I think all is well. i left the ecoglow brooder warmer in there too because they can't all fit under the one hen at once...lol. Thanks again for the advice hopefully we are...

Re: What do I do?

They are all asleep now under the mama hens for the night so all is well, for now. The moms sleep nestled side by side covering the chicks as a team. So I am not sure if it is a "not my chick" thing, or what they are thinking. When it happens, the other hen does not leap to the chicks defense. At th...

Re: What do I do?

Been watching the brooder very closely all day. Things will be fine and then all of a sudden a hen will just randomly target, peck, and chase a baby chick (no particular chick that I can identify). I put a couple hiding places in there and the chicks have learned that is a safe place. Usually I catc...
