Re: Chick not eating
She is doing better. She’s much smaller than the rest still, but maybe she was just younger than everyone else? Although I’ve had a couple of chicks before that act similar and never really turn it around. We’ll see what happens in a few weeks!

Re: Chick not eating
They were shipped to farm store from hatchery chicks. The rest are doing well so far, and she doesn’t look ill or anything. I’ll see if I can get her to swallow something softer. I had some small pieces, and she pecked at them, but wouldn’t go as far as swallowing it.

Chick not eating
I have a new chick that doesn’t seem to eat. It’s not lethargic or anything, yet. It peeps a lot and when I try to encourage it to eat, it sometimes pecks at the food, but doesn’t seem to be able to get it down. She had a piece in her mouth and scratched it out. Does anyone know what that is about, ...

Re: Cooking quail
I figured that was maybe just how they we’re supposed to be. It’s not terrible or anything, just trying to see if there’s something else I could be doing. I do get lazy and end up butchering way later than planned, and it’s mostly just my extra males, too. I keep them for cuteness factor, and eggs. ...

Re: Cooking quail
I sit them in the fridge for a day or so before cooking or freezing.

Quail egg peeler
Has anyone use a quail egg peeler, either manual or electric? If so, how did it go, and do you have any recommendations?

Cooking quail
I’ve butchered quail a few times now, and when I cook them up, I find the meat pretty tough. Maybe that’s just the way it is? Does anyone have advice? Maybe I’m butchering them too late and they get stringy as they get older? Does anyone know if this would make a difference? So, for those of you tha...

Chicks without mom…
So I gave a broody hen some chicks in June, and I sectioned them off in a shelf in my coop. She was very good to them, and I decided to open the divider after a month or so to try to get everyone moving around and acclimated and all that. But she ended up disappearing from their lives-I don’t even k...

Re: Good Morning
My chickens are driving me nuts! I have a broody hen who refuses to move to a different spot where the others can’t bother her, and of course the other hens want to go in that particular nesting box. I let her have some eggs after my fox mishap, and every few days there seems to be one less, and tod...
