Re: One eyed chicken?
We had a similar thing happen to one of our chickens last year. We suspect that the dominant hen was pecking at her face as they were learning their 'order'. I would suggest monitoring the her and her eye. Unfortunately, our hen's eye got pretty swollen and infected and we put her on anti-biotics (f...

Re: Is this Bumble Foot?
UPDATE: We tried to re-integrate her to the flock, but she was dust-bathing and the bandage came right off. It was gauze with Vet Wrap which we thought would stick well enough. Her foot has now become swollen, and I don't think it was this swollen before. Here are my questions for anyone who could o...

Re: Is this Bumble Foot?
Thank you Jaye and Farrier! Nothing shows from the top of the foot. So far, we have soaked the foot and removed the scab. There was nothing to be found under it really. we cleaned and dressed the wound. We'll keep that clean for now and see what happens. She's not lame and she's still laying and qui...

Is this Bumble Foot?
Hi all, Our healthy chicken was pecking her foot recently so I picked her up. I was surprised to see such an advanced scab on her foot! The foot looks mostly normal and maybe a little swollen. I also noticed she has a slight limp. Here are some pics. She's generally healthy and not lethargic - at le...

Re: Lice treatment other than Carbaryl and DE
Thank you for your reply WLLady!
What will folks do when Carbaryl is no longer available? Does tea tree oil work the same on poultry lice as human lice?
Also, for Carbaryl, how long do you wait after treatment to eat the eggs again?
Thanks so much! We are really hoping to nurse her back to health!

Lice treatment other than Carbaryl and DE
Hi Poultry Talk Peeps! My partner and I are new to backyard hen housing and we have acquired 2 barred rock hens. Neither of them are laying despite their age of about 25 weeks. We don't know if they were laying before they moved in with us 2 weeks ago because the flock they came from was too large f...
