Looking for 3-4 pullets for my new backyard coop (either almost RTL or just started laying), ideally a mix of breeds. I realize it's unlikely I'll be able to source all from one location. :) Not especially picky about breed, although would love any of the following: RIR, barred or columbian rock, au...

Re: Laying hens in Torontario
The other urban predator you may have to deal with is neighbouring dogs...I lost several rabbits complements of the neighbours large dogs, even though they were in a decent outdoor hutch. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons that the city isn't allowing the chickens here to be "at large" at any point. As far as b...

Re: Laying hens in Torontario
I think the biggest challenge will be the predators... especially the raccoons. They're far more intelligent than some people think... those "raccoon-proof" bins they rolled out last year? The ones in our area figured them out within a couple of weeks. I'll definitely be putting a proper keyed lock ...

Hello!
Newbie checking in from Toronto! Now that the city has allowed (hopefully permanently) backyard chickens, my family is getting ready to take the plunge. :) Very excited about acquiring a trio of hens in the near future.
