Anyone used it yet? noticed TSC carries it, hopefully, i can get some on Saturday.. would love a less dusty option with my COPD. Used to love the flax when i could buy it but that option of coarse ran out.

There are idiot buyers and idiot sellers, no group is free of them lol. I have never minded people asking, asking is how we learn and frankly, no one ever stops learning new things, nobody knows everything(mind you some think they do...) As for bedding as others have said, the "bales" are super easy...

The other urban predator you may have to deal with is neighbouring dogs...I lost several rabbits complements of the neighbours large dogs, even though they were in a decent outdoor hutch. That's to bad! our neighbours dog came over one day, never lost so many birds so quickly(other than the minks) ...

@valegal I agree about the raccoons. One got in my neighbors coop last week and killed 4 birds in the time it took her to hear the commotion and run out there. I'm interested in hearing about what it's like to keep birds in your situation. I imagine many of the issues you will face will be similar ...

That's the plan plus no noise . It's funny, the main reason that suburban areas don't want roosters is because of the "noise", but I have and have had, hens that are much louder than most of the cockerels that come of age here, and they can carry on for quite a while with their egg songs. Darn. Way to extreme and overly dramatic. Won't lie if i could of caught the one (or few) that were here that took down my Ram and others i may of given it a good kick or two after i shot it dead, but in the end i would never purposely cause an animal to suffer.

Curious on how long silkies live? are they lumped in like all chickens or because they are bantam tend to live longer like say smaller dogs?? We have a few older's here if we can keep everything from catching them .... :doh: 6 yrs is the oldest we have right now... IME they are such hardy little dus...
