Those work well too. We use those nipple waterers for our quail: We have them installed along a length of PVC pipe and they work well for them. They are messy drinkers, but we have hung a piece of old eavestrough from the pipe to catch and redirect excess to one end, rather than have it damp all the way along underneath the pipe.

@Jaye Would the cups be difficult to clean? Maybe use a toothbrush to clean them?

Yes, sometimes crud does get in there, but if you have a nearby hose, just hose them out. We don't have a water hose down by the coop at the moment so we use a garden pump sprayer. A cloth or paper towel works to clean them out too. Just lift the float valve and give it a quick wipe.

For now, we are using the small water founts - the ones that either have a plastic jar or a suitable mason jar with the red trough.
Those horizontal nipples were not hard to release water; I could tap on the side of it with my baby finger and water would come out.
We'll see how it all works out. And we'll introduce it again when the meat chickens (in with the week older chicks) are 2 weeks old. You never know, maybe it will work for the meat chickens.

I could not get the silkies to use it, bought a heated one for the winter. Will have to get the babies using it then maybe when they grow up they will use it.
